What are some of the most important trends do you see in our industry?
Oct 21, 2010 What are some of the most important trends do you see in our industry? This is a typical question to examine your true interest in the business and the industry. Be prepared to demonstrate that you have been following the latest developments in the sector from the news, credible publications and your own personal research. Always have 2 – 3 examples which will illustrate clearly that you understand the industry you are trying to enter into or you are already working in. Look at it from different perspectives and be ready to talk about technological challenges or opportunities, economic conditions, latest developments or even regulatory demands. Whenever possible try to give your opinion as to the direction in which the business is heading.
Why are you leaving / did you leave your job? Be honest, concise and directly to the point when confronted with this question. It could be very tricky and could actually seriously hurt your performance, so be prepared well in advance when addressing it. You might want to take the recruiter back to the planning phase of your job search when you were imagining the optimal professional future that you would have. If your leaving a job had been a result of an unfortunate set of circumstances (you were laid off in an across-the-board cutback) just say so. However, if you had to leave because of some sort of internal conflict try to stay as far away from the details as possible. If you start to criticize your former boss, the interviewer would actually spend more time on the topic trying to understand your behavior and the reasoning behind it. The fact that you had conflicts with superiors would bring up a red light in the recruiter’s mind that you are likely trouble. Stay as professional as possible and do not mention personal conflicts at the workplace. Yet, be honest. Remember that it is highly likely that the company would check your references and will contact your former boss, thus do not invent a story to suit the interview. The “we agreed to disagree” approach might be a good strategy at this point.
In your job, what features do / did you like the most? The least? This is a question designed to evaluate your motivation to do the work. As in every other question that provides an opportunity to be negative or critical, we at Growinfinance.com, strongly advise that you are not. Every job has its tough times but try to always keep a positive attitude. Describe more things in your job that you liked then that you did not like. Avoid talking about personal disagreements with your colleagues. Whenever possible try to convert the negative into a positive by explaining how the old job built your skills yet you feel that the time has come to further develop and do something different. What do you expect from your boss? Be positive an honest. Further pay careful attention to any information that the recruiter might be giving you throughout the interview with respect to the corporate culture, the management teams, etc as this could be a great starting point to answer this question. Regardless, of whether you picked up some new clues from the interview we would advise you to stay on the safe ground try to keep your answers generic. Some examples are: a sense of humor, fair, loyal to subordinates and holder of high standards.
